A Domestic Violence Awareness Benefit
Jacksonville, FL – October 10, 2013 – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; a time for the community to come together and build awareness and a movement towards safe and healthy relationships for all individuals and families. Domestic violence touches every person in our community and society as a whole; it violates a person’s dignity, safety, and basic human rights.
On October 26, 2011 Shay Brown, a survivor of domestic violence, made a decision to take her children and remove herself from the almost daily abuse she was subjected to in her marriage. It was a difficult decision and an even harder task to actually expedite, but she knew it had to be done to save her life and the lives of her children. In an effort to give back to the community and the wonderful people who came to her rescue, she planned a Celebration of Freedom that she’s calling “Silent for What?” to be held on the 2 year anniversary of her freedom: Saturday, October 26, 2013. The theme for this year’s benefit is Denim and Diamonds.
This fundraising event will allow victims, survivors and even witnesses to share their stories of enduring Domestic Violence. The night will not only be about awareness, it will also be a night of entertainment that will include The Lawrence Buckner Trio featuring KENYA in collaboration with Songbyrd Incorporated, a performance by neo-soul singer MJ Baker featuring The Rashon Medlock Band and great music by DJ Al Pete. Onyx Seven, owner of O VII Jewelry, will have a booth set up for those who would like to purchase any of her jewelry. She will have custom-made purple jewelry for Domestic Violence as well as pink custom-made jewelry for Breast Cancer Awareness. A raffle and silent auction will be held with said proceeds going toward domestic violence shelters in the Northeast Florida area.
“We need you to help us make a difference. We hope that you will take part in this exciting event and experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting our cause. We are relying on the generosity of individuals such as yourself and local businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we cannot reach our goal. I am seeking to raise funds for this event to continue to support Domestic Awareness,” says Shay Brown.
Shay Brown joined forces with Jenju Enterprises and DigitalMiss Designs to help bring awareness to the issue and help raise money to support local shelters that cater to women and men from all walks of life that are suffering or have suffered from abuse. Their overall plan is to renew the fight against domestic violence and abuse in America.
